Mount Ayr: Mountain upon the Gate of Hell

Jabl Ayr (Mount Ayr) is the second largest mountain in Madinah after Uhud and marks the southern boundary of Madinah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described it as a mountain of Hell.

Madeenah is sanctified between `Ayr
and Thawr.” Ayr is a mountain near Dhul Haleefah [Masjid-e-Ali where the people of Madina and the pilgrims coming to Makkah after staying in Madina, wrap ahram and do niyeet for umra. It is Meeqat for Madina people] and its rear side resembles the back of an Ayr which is a donkey. Thawr is a small mountain near and it does not refer to Mount Thawr that is in Makkah.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) declared, “Uhud is a mountain which loves us and which we love, it is upon the Gate of Heaven;” adding, “And Ayr is a place which hates us and which we hate, it is upon the Gate of Hell.”

‘Ayr’ means a ‘wild ass’, whereas Uhud is derived from Ahad, meaning ‘one’, — so called because it is fated to be the place of victory to those who worship one God. The very names, say Muslim sages, make it abundantly evident that even as the men of Al-Madinah were of two parties, friendly and hostile to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), so were these mountains.

Mount Abu Qubais - First Mountain on earth

The first ever Mountain created by Allah Almighty. This mountain is directly opposite the Ka’aba close to Mount Safa. Hazrat Adam [AS] took rocks from this mountain when he built the Ka'aba very first time on earth. After building the Ka'aba, Prophet Ibrahim [AS] stood on this mountain and called mankind to come and worship Allah. When Hazrat Nooh [AS] flood came the Hajrey Aswad [The Black Stone] was placed over this mountain. When the Holy Prophet [PBUH] first started preaching Islam publicly, he stood on Jabal Abu Qubais and called mankind to submit to Allah. It was whilst he was on this mountain that Holy Prophet [PBUH] split the moon in two. Prophet Mohammad Mustafa [saww] showed the miracle of Splitting the moon into two halves over this mountain. After the conquest of Makkah Hazrat Bilal Habashi [RA] recited Azaan over this mountain. This mountain had a small Mosque on it called Bilal Mosque. This Mosque is no more here. Beautiful palace of king has been built here and this spot has come in the palace. Today this mountain is better recognized by the large tunnels carved through it.

800 years old Kaaba Door Key

A 12 century key to the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the holiest site in Islam, has sold for 9.2 million pounds (18.2 million dollars), setting a new record for an Islamic work of art at auction.

The Abbasid period key, made of iron and measuring 37 cm long, sold last Wednesday at Sotheby's in London in 2008 for more than 18 times its pre-sale estimate and was bought anonymously. It is the only known example to remain in private hands.

The key, one of the ultimate symbols of religious power, is engraved with the words: "This is what was made for the Holy House of God during the time of our lord the Imam son of Imam al-Muqtadi Abu Jaafar al-Mustansir Abu al-Abbas 573."
